8.5 magnitude quake Aceh Electrical Disconnect. An earthquake measuring 8.5 on the Richter Scale (SR) shook Aceh waters, this afternoon. Depth of the quake was 10 kilometers, cut off electricity in the province.
Head of Data Center for Information and Public Relations of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Sutopo said the quake occurred at 15:38 pm with the point of the earthquake at 434 kilometers southwest of Meulaboh, Aceh. "Regarding the loss of life, we still continue to record," said Sutopo.
BNPB received information that the residents have moved into high places because of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) has issued a tsunami alert. "BNPB still coordinating with the entire national potential."
Potential tsunami earthquake is targeting the west coast of Sumatra, from Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Bengkulu and Lampung.
"Information from Aceh, the quake was felt very hard. Power's out. Road traffic towards the high ground, the sound of sirens, and echoed the call to prayer."
BNPB has prepared a Quick Reaction Force on Disaster Management for the site.
